- Questions?

  • If you have any questions, refer to our Questions tab above.

Apply to Your IOP Program

Applying to an IOP program is a two-part process:

1. Apply directly to your IOP program according to their instructions.  Some programs may require forms to be completed by your home university or study abroad advisor. For forms requiring disciplinary verification, contact the UCI Office of Student Conduct and request a Dean's Certification. All other forms can dropped off at the Study Abroad Center front desk and then picked up within 48 hours.

2. Complete the IOP Forms for the Study Abroad Center. If applicable, complete the necessary steps for IOP Financial Aid and IOP Credit. See relevant tabs above.

IOP Credit

1.Read the IMPORTANT information on all of the tabs on How to Get Credit, especially the Credit Limitations tab, as this may have academic and financial aid implications.

2. Prior to departure, determine whether or not you should complete an IOP Academic Planning Tool:

  • IOP participants during the summer:
    • Do Not complete an IOP Academic Planning Tool as no new financial aid is available and academic pre-planning cannot be provided at this time.
  • IOP participants during the academic year:
    • who want to receive financial aid, are required to complete an IOP Academic Planning Tool*.
    • who want to receive credit (units to graduate) and/or fulfill degree requirements (major, minor, GE), can optionally complete an IOP Academic Planning Tool* for academic planning purposes.

To gain access to the IOP Academic Planning Tool, complete the IOP Academic Planning Tool Request Form. *Note: Only one IOP Academic Planning Tool can be processed per student per each academic year.  The tool provides guidance, and is not a guarantee.  The process of requesting, completing, and waiting for review of your IOP Academic Planning Tool will take 4-8 weeks to complete, so plan accordingly

3. Prior to return, be sure to have your IOP Program send your official transcript in a sealed university envelope directly to:

Office of Admissions and Relations with Schools
    260 Aldrich Hall
    University of California, Irvine
    Irvine, CA 92697-1075 USA

The types of financial aid available and process to follow varies by program. Read our Financial Aid and Scholarships page for details, and follow the action items listed for your program (IOP during the year or IOP summer) immediately.
