Important Events - Mark your calendar!

Study Abroad Returnee Seminar Come to the first meeting for winter quarter!
Monday, January 5 at 12:00 noon in SSL 152
This 1-unit seminar is for recently returned study abroad participants who don’t want the study abroad experience to end and want to know how to keep it alive within you.  Reflect on what you’ve learned and discover how to move forward in job searching, further education and personal development – right now and into the future.  You are welcome to come to the first meeting of the class and then determine if this seminar will fit into your schedule and plans for on-going international learning.  Contact the Study Abroad Center for the course enrollment access code the first week of winter quarter.

International Welcome (Back) Breakfast - FREE FOOD!

LESSONS FROM ABROAD: Study Abroad Returnee Conference
At Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego on Saturday, February 21, 9:30 am - 5:00 pm.  (It is a 1-hour and 45 minute drive from UCI).
Your registration fee of $15 covers the cost of lunch and conference materials.  Past participants say the conference benefited them personally and professionally. 

  • Reflect upon your experiences abroad, lessons learned and skills gained
  • Learn how to present your global skills in a job interview
  • Network with students and professionals
  • Explore international opportunities for your future in the U.S. and abroad

Graduate Fellowship:  Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Program  Application Due:  January 14, 2015
The Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Program seeks applicants who are interested in promoting positive change in the world as Foreign Service Officers for the U.S. Department of State.  The fellowship is open to undergraduate seniors and recent graduates who intend to begin a two-year master’s programs in the fall of 2015.  This program encourages the application of members of minority groups historically underrepresented in the Foreign Service and those with financial need. All UCI graduates who have been awarded this fellowship had studied abroad while at UCI.

Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP)
Get Involved in Research Workshops, multiple dates beginning January 8

Did an international topic spark your interest while abroad?  Plan a faculty-mentored research project on your international area of interest.  Opportunities are available to apply for research funding, for publication in the UCI Undergraduate Research Journal, and to present your research at the annual UCI Undergraduate Research Symposium.  Visit the UROP website above for details, including workshop registration.

Extend your international learning through Internships – UCDC
You've been abroad - now gain hands-on experience interning in a globally-focused internship in Washington D.C.  Internships are available in virtually any field, including internship sites such as Amnesty International, Interpol, Center for International Policy, Center for Strategic and International Studies, Citizens for Global Solutions, US State Department, and many, many more! Come to an Information Session to learn more:

Participate in Civic and Community Engagement
Take what you have learned abroad and put it into community action and public service here at home.

Visit the Civic & Community Engagement (CCE) Office to find out how you can volunteer or develop your own community service project. Go Abroad Again!

UCI Summer Session:  Study Public Health in Bali this Summer!   
Interested in alternative medicine and working with an NGO? Join Dr. Zuzana Bic this summer to study public health principles and to examine health and disease at the Bali Institute for Global Renewal, a premier world learning center in beautiful Bali, Indonesia. In addition to earning UCI units, students may petition to complete their Public Health Practicum hours in Bali. Enrollment is now open! Questions?  949-824-7649.

Global Brigades at UCIService projects spring break and summer 2015!
Global Brigades at UC Irvine is a group of passionate student volunteers who work on sustainable development projects in Honduras, Panama and Ghana.  Our mission is to provide long term solutions to problems instead of simply putting a band-aid over the issues.  Get hands on experience.  UCI’s eight Global Brigade disciplines, including medicine, dentistry, microfinance, human rights, public health, water accessibility, and more, are currently planning their spring break and summer brigades. International Studies Club
The International Studies Club is an academic club designed to integrate students from all backgrounds who share a common interest in the global arena. From areas of public health assistance, governance and public policy to anthropology and culture.  ISC incorporates academic events that focus on global issues, societies and cultures and students can come together to synthesize opinions and ideas. The synergistic club is designed for all students of UCI, regardless of major.

Communication Club (conversation partners)
Do you want to continue meeting people from around the world? Then meet international students at UCI, who are studying abroad just like you did. Be a conversation partner for a UCI Extension international student and exchange language, learn about a new culture, and have fun! Distinguish yourself at Graduation - Get a Country Sash

Show your global pride at graduation and make your international experience visible! Accent your cap and gown with a Country Sash! The special discount price for UCI Students is $30.  Order at the Study Abroad Center in 1100 Student Services II by May 8. We can only accept exact cash or checks. You can check out the sashes here but be sure to order through the Study Abroad Center in order to receive the discount price.

Share your experience abroad with others

Are you tired of talking about your time abroad with friends and family and seeing their eyes glaze over? Below are some ways for you to get a captive audience and share about your experiences with people who want to hear it.

  • Join Us On Facebook  Show UCI students what YOU did abroad! Post your photos, videos, blogs, stories, and more on the Anteaters Abroad page on Facebook. This is an easy way to promote study abroad at UCI and could quite possibly inspire someone else to take their journey!
  • Be in the Student Spotlight on our home page.  We would love to include YOUR story.  Take a look at the short list of questions on EEE and respond to those that pertain to you.  These Student Spotlights motivate UC Irvine students of today and tomorrow to follow in your foot-steps and make the life-changing decision to study abroad! Check out current Spotlights (at the top of the page).
